CHICANO-SUR-POP-ADELIC Esteban Salazar Born in the late 60’s and raised in the 70’s, how can one not be influenced by the colorful Pop Culture of the era. Chicano-Sur-Pop-Adelic is a marriage of major art movements that have influenced my work. Chicano Art gives me the themes for my pieces, which range from social, political, to religion. Surrealism gives me the drive to put familiar images of my subconscious down on canvas and interpret the meanings for me. Pop Art gives me the characters by using Mexican – American – Chicano Icons to be my voice, and Psychedelic Art gives me the palette of bright colors which have been embedded in my mind since an early age. 1995 Graduate of University of Texas at El Paso: Bachelor of Arts / All Levels Teaching Certification ACCOMPLISHMENTS 1996 -2008: Juntos Art Association Board member 2009: El Paso featured artist – Texas State Capitol – Austin Tx. 2005: EL PASO MUSEUM OF ART ARTIST OF THE MONTH 2005: El Paso Times Arts and Culture section article and photo, “Artist of the Week”, 2005: El Paso artist featured in the book – Triumph of our Communities: Four Decades of Mexican American Art – Tempe Az. 2004: artist participant in the Cheech Marin’s “Chicano Visions: – El Paso Museum of Art 2000: NALAC: National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, Corpus Christi National Conference 2000 1999: El Paso Muralist chosen for the Lincoln Park Spaghetti Bowl murals 1999: presenter and Juntos member coordinator –El Paso International Mural Conference El Paso Scene magazine, article and artwork, “Celebrate El Paso’s Heritage”, Sept. 1995 1994: artist participant: “HISTORY OF THE MISSION VALLEY” silo mural – Horizon Tx.
